About the practice

Root-cause care,
close to home

Cove Naturopathic is a telemedicine primary care practice built on a simple idea: that patients deserve a doctor who listens, investigates, and treats the whole person — not just their symptoms.

Why we exist

Medicine that treats people, not diagnoses

Too many patients leave conventional medicine feeling unheard, over-tested, and under-treated. They're handed prescriptions for symptoms instead of answers about causes. They wait months for a 15-minute visit that barely scratches the surface.

Cove Naturopathic was founded to be different. We start with time — real time to understand your full history, your lifestyle, your goals, and the patterns that led you here. Then we investigate deeply, using both conventional labs and functional testing to find what's actually driving your symptoms.

The result is care that makes sense. Treatments tailored to your body. Plans you can actually follow. And a doctor who knows you.

Primary care

Annual physicals, lab review, chronic disease management, and acute care — all under one roof.

Whole-person medicine

Body, mind, environment, and lifestyle — because health is never just one thing.

Root-cause focus

We don't just suppress symptoms. We find out why they're happening.

Telemedicine-first

Serving Oregon and Washington patients from wherever they are.

The name behind the practice

Rooted in Cove, Oregon

Cove is a small ranching and farming community in Union County, Oregon — population just under 600, nestled between the Grande Ronde Valley and the Wallowa Mountains. It's the kind of place where the pace is slower, the air is cleaner, and people still look out for one another.

Dr. Mary Harel grew up here. The name isn't just her hometown — it's a value. A reminder that good medicine should feel grounded, personal, and close to home, even when it's delivered over a video call to someone in Portland, Seattle, or anywhere in between.

A cove is also a place of shelter — somewhere you arrive and feel safe. That's what every patient interaction at Cove Naturopathic is meant to feel like.

“The name Cove is a nod to where I come from — and a reminder that good medicine should feel like home.”

— Dr. Mary Harel, ND

Telemedicine, intentionally

Care that comes to you

Cove Naturopathic is a telemedicine-only practice — and that's a deliberate choice. The Pacific Northwest is vast. Many of the patients who need thoughtful, unhurried primary care live hours from a naturopathic doctor, can't take time off work for in-person visits, or simply haven't found a doctor who treats them as a whole person.

Telemedicine removes those barriers. You see Dr. Mary from your home, your office, or wherever works for you. Lab orders are sent to a draw site near you. Prescriptions go to your local pharmacy. The only thing that changes is that you're not sitting in a waiting room.

It's care built around your life — not the other way around.

How we practice

The six naturopathic principles

These principles aren't just philosophy — they guide every clinical decision we make.

First, Do No Harm

Use the least invasive, most natural therapies possible. Work with the body, not against it.

The Healing Power of Nature

Support the body's innate ability to heal itself when given the right conditions.

Identify the Cause

Seek and treat root causes — not just symptoms. Symptoms are signals, not the problem itself.

Treat the Whole Person

Consider body, mind, environment, genetics, and life circumstances together.

Doctor as Teacher

Educate and empower patients to understand their health and make informed decisions.

Prevention

Emphasize building and maintaining health to prevent future disease before it starts.

Founder & Naturopathic Doctor

Dr. Mary grew up in Cove, Oregon, surrounded by open land, horses, and a community that understood health in a holistic, practical way long before it was fashionable. She completed her Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine at Bastyr University, and founded Cove Naturopathic to bring that same grounded, whole-person care to patients across the Pacific Northwest.
